A little teary with victory :)

Listening to Minnesota Public Radio coverage and feeling a little teary and oh so happy. Last Friday, the state House voted to pass a bill that would legalize marriage between two persons - regardless of gender or sex. Today, just now, the Senate passed the bill as well. Governor Dayton has promised to sign the legislation.

On August 1st the legislation will come into effect. Minnesota is the 12th state in the USA to legalize same-sex marriage and is the first in the Midwest (which other states....?) to pass it within legislature. (In 2009 Iowa legalized marriage through the state Supreme Court.)

Thank you representatives and senators. Thank you.

There's still a long road ahead and it's such a huge accomplishment each time a state legalizes same-sex marriage. I'm so proud of you guys.

Sooooo happy. Never fully convinced when people are saying something's "for sure" (as the predictions were for the Senate) so basically anxious until the vote came through. Really proud of people, though, and it does genuinely chalk up another mark into the column of "reasons I want to stay in MN."
