First fanfics

This'll age me (though I think most of my lj friends are my age or older).

Did a good bit of cleaning this morning (though kitchen floor is still filthy and I don't feel up to doing it still) and then decided to do a little unpacking/organizing of my last few boxes from my mom's house. I forgot that she'd found my stories from elementary school, so I didn't realize what the wire-bound packet of papers was as I pulled it out. Lo' and behold, it's Martin the Warrior circa 1995.

Back in elementary, there was a kid in my class whose mom came in to help out sometimes. One of the cool things she did was type up our stories, then print and bind them - wire spiral, plastic covers. And then we could draw and color in our pictures to illustrate the story. I'm not sure how many are in the folder my mom kept, guess I'll see. But as I flipped through Martin (yes, of Redwall fame), I considered the possibility of scanning the pages in. I think I'll make it a project. Over the years I've become proud of my writing history, even the stories I dislike and cringe over. It shows progress and determination, and I'm reminded of the various teachers and family friends who encouraged me all along.

Also, I have to laugh at how early I started writing fanfic and had no idea there was a name for such a thing. I think Martin, as I realize how old I was, isn't my first typed story. I'd have been eight at the time and I'm pretty sure I should have some things from a younger age.

Anyway, thought I'd share.

Oh, Martin the Warrior, I LOVED those books! I think I wrote my first fanfic in 1993/1994, and it was Batman/Catwoman based on the animated series. Pretty sure that's lost on an obsolete hard drive somewhere, though.
