NaNoWriMo Day 1: New lessons learned

LESSONS LEARNED

* Your characters are people. As such, they tend to be social creatures. When you get stuck - get your character interacting with another character.
Case in point: Writing random exposition does not lead me into an easy writing mood. Had to kick Jane in the ass and get him to notice Cho was nearby to get a conversation going. (Kind of an odd conversation, but still.)

* When you're getting stuck and you're not sure what's wrong, try changing the person's point of view.
Case in point: Jane was thinking too much and it was getting me hung up. Change over to Cho and he was much less pushy about upstaging the writing process. :p

* You really don't have to name all your places right now.
Case in point: The bookstore where most of the story will take place doesn't have a name yet. It's a large one, so probably a chain. Any one in particular in the Sacramento, California area?

* I need more chocolate.

Word count for the day (as it's 23:00 right now): 2,660

Cho is much less pushy about most things, especially compared to Jane. :P And more chocolate makes everything better.

Congrats on your wordcount!

Quite true, lol.

And thanks. :) My stress levels are on the rise with everything in RL... I think I'll be taking refuge in NaNo quite a bit.

Lesson I've learned - writing character deaths never get easier - especially when it's an animal - and yes you're eyes will blur because of it when the occasion mixes with you're already emotional sentiments. But getting it out of the way early means you don't have to write it later.

That takes me back to a Sentinel story I wrote for a zine many years ago!

Hmm, character deaths. I don't tend to do those anymore, though I certainly have done so in the past.

I'm glad you're making your way along! I got very little written yesterday. :\
