Accent Meme & catching up

Today I have to write my paper but my morning is "catch-up" time for some LJ posts since I wasn't paying attention this weekend in Iowa. (Fun trip, btw.)

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

North Central. This is what everyone calls a "Minnesota accent." If you saw "Fargo" or "Drop Dead Gorgeous" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Some Americans may mistake you for a Canadian.

If you are not a northern Minnesotan, you are probably one of these:
(a) A Yooper from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan; or
(b) A Canadian who has a mostly but not completely Canadian accent

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

Actually I disagree with this assessment. While my mother is indeed from Minnesota, she wasn't from the upper part so I didn't have a heavy influence there. Then, I'm a Milwaukee native, so southeastern Wisconsin. I'm within the region of where they train news-broadcasters to speak so that they have a neutral accent. I know I'm not mishearing myself because the stereotypical Minnesotan accident sounds a little weird to me and now that I'm living in Minnesota, I have a slightly different accent than most MN natives - particularly northerners. :p

Ok, whatever, that's that.

I'm English and come out as a Philadelphian, so I think it's safe to say it's not foolproof.
